Modelsim Altera Starter accessing the Internet ??

Using the Modelsim Altera Starter edition (6.5b), whenever I run the vsim command my firewall pops up and says that vsimk.exe is trying to access the internet at 0.0.0.0:DNS

The application hangs at that point unless I tell the firewall to let it through.

Does anyone know whether it is supposed to be doing this, or even why?

    ModelSim-Altera Starter Edition doesn't need a license (and shouldn't contact the license server?)

    That's what I thought, which begs the question "what IS it doing"?
