Linux installation issues

I downloaded the Linux .tar file for the Quartus II software for my Digital Design class. Everything downloaded okay and I ran the script to install it but it is not appearing in my applications lists in order to use. Did I forget to install something?

    it won't appear in your applications list. you need to set up the appropriate environment variables (QUARTUS_ROOTDIR, PATH at a minimum), then run the command: quartus
