Looks like I mah have fixed this ... the model for my sniffer in the testbench and simulation directories seemed out of date .. I removed the sniffer instances from QSYS , generated and then added them back in and re -ran generate for synthesis, testbench and simulation and it passed . So I guess somehow the sniffer models got out of synch.
