You may also want to check this out: http://philpem.me.uk/elec/fpga/quartus-ubuntu/

I installed both the free and the subscription (30-day evaluation) versions of Quartus 10.0 on kubuntu 10.04, 32-bit.

Unfortunately I'm not at home, so I can't be specific. I hope you can wait until later this evening?

Maybe use 'sudo bash ./setup' ?

Of cause I can wait. Or maybe some one else can help. I'm run bash ./setup from root.

I did exactly as described on Philip Pemberton's Web page (http://philpem.me.uk/elec/fpga/quartus-ubuntu/ (http://philpem.me.uk/elec/fpga/quartus-ubuntu/).

But after the installation of the Quartus base software the setup programs hangs on installing the support for the devices. (it may get through one or two, though). Eventually you have to terminate the setup program. The last few lines In the altera_installer.log looks like this:

Installation of Quartus II Software for Linux Workstations
is complete. You can now run the Quartus II software.
Installing package : Arria GX Family ...
    Command : /home/josy/altera/10.0/quartus/bin/quartus_sh --qinstall -qda "/home/josy/Documents/10.0_quartus_linux/altera_installer/bin/../../devices/subscription/arriagx.qda" -show_qt_progress

Discard the -show_qt-progress option and run the command with 'sudo' for every device family you want support for. You can find the appropriate names for the families in the DownloadFolder\10.0_quartus_liinux\devices\subscription or in the ownloadFolder\10.0_quartus_free_liinux\devices folder.

I used your link of philip pemberton's website to install Quartus 10 on Ubuntu 10.04 but it stalls after the Quartus Free Web Edition software is installed and starts to install the first FPGA family on the list.

My PC is Core i5 (quad-core). When I downloaded the Quartus 10 for Linux, it did not say if it is a 64-bit version. How can I find out what version got installed? How do I install the rest of the libraries, especially the Stratix?

I did what was recommended to josyb and installed the max and stratix families. Can the libraries be installed in any order?

Web Edition is 32 bit only. Stratix is largely not supported in Web Edition (search for web edition comparison on altera.com). libraries can probably be installed in any order
