It's usually on the cd folder I think.
I assume you need this for licensing? - Altera_Forum

If you are registered on the altera site to download cores and get hundreds of webpack licenses because you system keeps changing http://forum.niosforum.com/work2/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif then it'll tell you the ID on there somewhere. If you recieved the upgrade from NIOS I it's on one of the pages in there too.

Let me guess, this is for a renew and you never registered it to begin with (not that I would do that .......... http://forum.niosforum.com/work2/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif )

It sounded like you ran into the same problem I had when we received our renewal package. Nobody bothered to register our NIOS development kits so when it was time for the renewal registration we didn't have MAC addresses assigned to an Altera ID for each NIOS II shipped.
If this is your first time trying to register the kit (I'm assuming this is the reason why you wanted your ID number) and it doesn't seem to let you I would contact Altera about that. - Altera_Forum

Call Altera. Alan listed the phone number in another thread. I'll see if I can find it.
