USB on the go not working in GSRD 14.1

I'm on the Altera Cyclone V dev kit. With 13.0 GSRD I was able to modify the kernel, add Serial ATA support and recompile the kernel so it would see my Compact Flash card reader.

I switched to GSRD 14.1 thinking I should stay current - I even am using 3.18 kernel. But, I can't get the USB to recognize anything (after I modified the kernel from the sopcfpga_defconfig).

Anyone gotten the USB to go to work and if so what kernel, what's the magic configuration?
