small question looking for help

so at the environment of quartus 2,how can I change to "software mode"? It's just a little funny question ,but it puzzled me a lot!~ Thanks very much for the ones who give me hel...

Thank you very much for your help!! but in fact I don't want to code in the IDE,I just want to lanch the ESS from the quartus 2, to make a simulation.

It's right that I have simulate(Debug as Nios 2 Instruction set simulatoe) my project in the IDE,I just can't get the difference between the simulation in the IDE and that using the ESS.

Is it right that if I simulate my project in the IDE and I have not to do the same thing in the ESS? Or the ESS is a advanced tool for us to simulate our project and we can get a better simulation if we us it ?
