Running C code from the board

I'm new to the Nios II as well as the MicroTronix Embedded Linux OS. I'm hitting a wall when I'm trying to get my simple "hello world" c program to run from the board. I've gone through the Linux Quick Start Guide, but I know that I'm missing some major steps to get the code to run off the board. Can someone point me in the right direction on this one?
