Quartus licensing options

I have sometimes seen that there can be differences in optimization with different licenses, and I see that different patches are released for the full vs web versions. As a sanity check, it would be nice to know:

What difference if any would I expect to see if I use a valid subscription license with the web edition of Q4.1 or 4.2 (as opposed to the web lic)?

How do I know the web edition is properly recognizing the subscription license and improving things?

What difference if any would I expect to see if I changed from using the web edition to the full edition installed from CD, same license?

When a license is too old to support a new release of quartus, does it give a warning or quietly disable certain features or what?

Does this apply equally to both web and full editions, or will I always be able to use my old license with a new web edition?

The Quartus license does not alter the behavior of the NiosII tools does it?

According to Altera there should be no difference in the optimization between the full and web editions.

The full edition gives you support for more devices, and a few features such as the simulator, chip editor & signal tap.

The tools should stop working when the license is no longer valid, rather than disabling features.
