Thanks for putting it on the nios wiki.

I didn&#39;t know anything about the details, but I think what you need is the gdb server/client with jtag.

altera had opened the download of complete altera desgin suit 6.1 for linux, including quartus, nios ii, ip and modelsim.

now you can configure sof, download image, debug and program flash using usb blaster, all on your linux pc, even if you did not purchase a license. i updated the wiki to this release,

The license requirement does not change in 6.1. If you don&#39;t have the license, it is just 30 days eval for hardware design.

But the software tools do not have such limitation. Please read the release note of 6.1.
