Problem Starting Nios II IDE

When I attempt to start up the Nios II IDE, I see the splash-screen, then a small dialogue box appears, saying:

"An error has occurred. See the log file c\Altera\kits\nios2\bin\eclipse\configuration23164 207890.log"

Clearly something(s) is/are missing, so I have tried uninstalling, then re-installing the entire Altera software suite (Quartus, Nios II SDK, Megacore evaluation). This has made no difference.

Are there any clues in the "_0.0.0." version number extensions of the "missing component bundles"?

I am running Quartus II 5.0, SP 1.04, Nios II evaluation edition 5.0 on Win XP Pro 2002, SP 2.

I have had previous versions running OK, but this is the first time that I have tried to start up with the latest versions.
