nios2-linux on DE0 (Cyclone III /EP3C16F484)

Hi,

today I wanted to try out running linux on my DE0 board [1] which I thought should be possible.

I followed the tutorial on [2] which uses also a cyclone III.

Compiling the source and so on -- using the default settings -- went quite fine, however when downloading the linux.initramfs.gz to the board I get a download error due to failed verification similar to this user here: [3]

So I tried using compiling the source with custom-fpga.h - however this fails horribly due to several missing defines :/

Can somebody perhaps help me creating a valid SOPC file which is compatible with the nios2-linux for my board?

Which components are absolutely necessary for linux to run on niosII ?

Help is really appreciated as I tried to get it working for the last few days (and creating/modifing many many systems ://)

    Hi,

    I think that components that are necessary to run uclinux with MMU are:

    1-CPU

    2-OnChip_Memory

    3-Sdram

    4-Timer

    5-Jtag_Uart

    Once you have compiled the project follow the second link you have posted of nioswiki, it's very well explained I think.

    yes thank you very much.

    Now I'm getting these errors

    Where do I get the right values for these from ? J

    ust copy them from the default_mmu.h and hope the best?

    Unfortunately they aren't defined in my custom_fpga.h :/

    Ah - adding the tightly coupled instruction / data masters and recreating the system it worked and the system compiled quite fine - even downloading worked.

    However after downloading and attaching a nios2-terminal nothing is displayed :/

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

    Any ideas I do the same, well I only write nios2-terminal the command that you wrote my terminal didn't found it.

    Because you dont have nios2-terminal in your PATH variable.

    Put this: locate nios2-terminal

    Check the Virginia Tech CCM Lab wiki page. It provides detailed information on how to install uClinux on NIOS2 in general, and Terasic DE2-70, DE4 and DE0-Nano board in particular.
