nios-ii ide hang on startup 9/10

My NIOS-II IDE hangs on startup most of the time I try to run it.

I'm using the Sun Java 2 Platform v1.5.0_04.b05.

As soon as I try to select a menu option, it says "Not Responding".

Sometimes a reboot helps, otherwise I just keep trying 'til it works.
