i do not intend to make commercial products, but for my (hobbyist) application (autonomous robots) i cannot live with the nios time limitation.
where could i buy such a license and what would be the approx. cost?
thx, fried

--- Quote End --- I have a DE1 board (stripped down DE2). It comes with a .pof file for a NIOS II system that is not time-limited. The Cyclone board I bought earlier did also. However, the catch is that you can not add your own custom SOPC builder components (or modify SOPC configuration at all) because when you re-generate the system, then compile in Quartus II, you will get a time-limited .sof file that will not allow you to make a .pof file. I have the same issue as you (single individual, not working for company). I don't remember where I found this info, but as I recall after surfing many hours, I came across information that said you can get the NIOS II license for $500. I think the license may only last a year though ??? (I am not sure about that or not.) If so, as long as your design is completed in a year, you can still program your chip(s) with the last .pof file you created when the license was valid. Hope this helps.
