I can't disclose exact details yet since Nios II 5.0 hasn't been officially released.

The Nios II/f has a new improved data cache which also provides faster accesses to memory, especially on-chip memories.

The number of logic elements hasn't changed (maybe a bit more with the new D-cache).

The old D-cache is still available to provide complete backwards compatibility although the vast majority of software that works

with the old D-cache will work with the new D-cache.
