Makefiles,etc vs. NIOS-Eclipse IDE

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently doing the first steps with FPGA/NIOS Development, using the NIOS II Hardware Development Tutorial (on an Cyclon II/NIOS Evalboard). Far goal will be running uclinux. For now, i found out, that i'm rather unhappy with using the NIOS II IDE (This Eclipse thing). I do not really have proper understanding, what's going on, where all the files live, etc.

I'm pretty familiar with linux (running LFS at home since 3.3, doing some embedded Linux, etc.), so i'm not afraid at all about Makefiles and vi as Editor. That's why i'm also having cygwin installed on the Windows2000 Machine, i currently have to use for the NIOS-Development (New Computer also running Linux is already ordered, will be here in some weeks).

Now my 2 issues:

1.) Running "Nios II SDK Shell.bat" from my cygwin tells me:

.
. Removing old PATH, because a copy of
. cygwin1.dll was found at:
. /cygdrive/c/cygwin/bin/cygwin1.dll
. You can remove or rename it to avoid conflict.
.

Of course i don't want to remove my original cygwin1.dll because it belongs to "my" cygwin, which i need for other things. But i don't like the idea having diffent cygwin-versions running on my PC, although starting the NIOS Shell seems to work properly. Anything i can do, to get the NIOS part running with "my" cygwin. I haven't tried anything yet, cause i don't want to destroy anything http://forum.niosforum.com/work2/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

2.) Is there any literature available, which describes SW Development for NIOS II without this Eclipse-IDE hassle, just with Makefiles calling the nios-gcc, etc. (I know, that this wish may sound bizarre, because ususally most people love working with IDEs, but i personally definitly don't like this http://forum.niosforum.com/work2/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif ).

Sorry, if this kind of problems was solved here before, but i'm yet not very good in searching the forum because of my current lack of NIOS-Buzzwords.

Cheers,

WK
