Lightweight IP

Hello everybody:

Is it possible to use the lwIP without the Micro/Os-II. I've been searching the web, and it is possible to use the lwIP ina a single-threaded enviroment(no OS). But the related Altera documentation says that you need to use a Micro/Os-II to work with the lwIP. Is it because the Altera lwIP port or the HAL is fitted to work only with a OS? How can I use it withou an OS? Please let me know if you have something about it .
