21 years agoHigh Throughpu Ethernet connection
Hi to all
In my new project I need a high throughput ethernet connection to receive UDP packets. I have searched a lot of produts from single chip ethernet controllers up to powerful ARM based microcontrollers with built in ethernet controller. Some of them have the ability to do the task. Recently I find the ALtera's Nios II processor core. Please help me in my questions: - How much is the total price of the elements, developement tools and cores to implement a design with high throughput ethernet connection by Nios ii. Thanks2 Replies

The basic IP stack (LWIP) that comes with Nios II is not known for its perfromance, but it does feature the sockets API, works resonably well, and the best part is that it is free. Altera has produced a reference design for Nios II & high-speed ethernet with the combination of Nios II, and third party IP stack and ethernet MAC IP. You can check out the specifications and performance here (I believe there is also a reference design you can download): http://www.altera.com/corporate/news_room/...interniche.html (http://www.altera.com/corporate/news_room/releases/products/nr-interniche.html)

Hello layaghi,
check the follwowing topic to get some more information: http://www.niosforum.com/forum/index.php?a...t=st&f=2&t=2169 (http://www.niosforum.com/forum/index.php?act=st&f=2&t=2169) The total price depends on your local distributor. The easiest way is to start with a low cost development board. Regards, niosIIuser
