Honored ContributorQuartus is specifically designed for Altera's fpga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/fpga)'s and cpld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cpld)'s. It isn't too complex for that application, but using it to do a cd player is probably overkill, yes.
