Flash programming

Hi. I have Nios1.1 design i have to use on the startix 2 evaluation board. I am using AM29LV128 flash legacy component provided with nios2 dev kit. I am trying to use GERMS monitor to program this part. I have problems. I am getting errors writing to flash. I can erase it but can not program it. I looked throw the code in the lib directore AMD29LV128.c file, and it seems to me that flash write function are written for the WORD mode. Did anybody try to program this flash?
