Filesystem Sync w/ FTP

I'd like to update files on my onboard flash via FTP. I have my flash mounted as ext2 at startup. I can FTP to the board and send my files, but I can't find a way to synchronize the filesys...

Can you use jffs2 rather than ext2? I believe it handles such issues by design.
