<Hardware problem>Could anyone help me?

I tried to layout a nios board myself, and I followed with the Demo board.

But I found I couldn&#39;t know how does the Lan91c1111 work, synch or asynch?

I read the Lan91c1111 datasheet, and I found the demo board connected both the synch and asynch control signals.

The question is how the SOPC&#39;s Lan91c1111 works , and then I could choose the real one, to reduce my FPGA&#39;s pins.
