I lobbied for this feature, but it didn't make the cut for current plans.

A suggestion: check out the "EPCS Virtual Memory Peripheral" at www.fpga.nl. This component claims to present a flat memory space to SOPC Builder. I haven't tried it, but if it works, it might be easy to port the existing CFI flash routines to use serial flash, when accessed through the peripheral.
