Anyone have experience with a Marvell 88E1111 PHY?

I got the PHYWORX development kit from MoreThanIP, which came with a daughtercard using the Marvell 88E1111 chip, a reference Nios II design, and as I was disappointed to find out, an evaluation license of their MAC. An actual license is pretty expensive...$15k for a 10/100 and $25k for a 10/100/1000.

So I noticed in the "Post your own IP" forum that someone had written a driver modeled around the OpenCores MAC. Before I spend some time researching this I was wondering, has anyone else used this MAC with the Marvell chip? Or maybe a different free/low-cost MAC?
