PCIe MM-DMA has no option for going to/from FIFO?

Do I understand the documentation correctly, that there is no option for sourcing DMA writes from a FIFO (inside the FPGA) or sending DMA reads to a FIFO? If that is the case, are people using buffers to get data from the DMA to a FIFO?
