Character LCD project for Arria 10 GX Dev kit

Hi, i need to develop a simple design example to write characters in Character LCD. I'm reading about devices of the board but i still haven't found what i look for.:)

I'm trying to learn the logic sequence that i need send to LCD 16x2 controller to write characters correctly into LCD. I saw in BTS example that is used a jtag master with avalon but, i want to do without jtag, just with avmm taking advantage from reference design for arria 10 pcie_avmm.
