Is 10GBase-R the underlying protocol used before the optical module?

  • Yes, 10GBase-R is the base physical layer that the transceiver implements electrically.

Also, does this mean that other optical modules, such as 10GBase-SR, are supported as well?

  • Generally, yes. The transceiver can work with other 10G optical modules such as 10GBase-SR, as long as they use the same line rate and comply with the electrical interface spec.

Is there a list of qualified Transceivers available? If not, the above info is currently incomplete, as SFP+ and QSFP+ Transceivers are often vendor-locked. The Intel E10GSFPSR did not work in my case. Which transceivers are used by Intel(Altera) for qualifiying/testing the development board DK-A5E065AB32AEA ?
