Hello Joshua,
Is 10GBase-R the underlying protocol used before the optical module?
- Yes, 10GBase-R is the base physical layer that the transceiver implements electrically.
Also, does this mean that other optical modules, such as 10GBase-SR, are supported as well?
- Generally, yes. The transceiver can work with other 10G optical modules such as 10GBase-SR, as long as they use the same line rate and comply with the electrical interface spec.

HI paveetirrasrie_Altera
I have the Agilex 5E Premium Devkit.
When I use a 10GBase-SR SFP+ module, it does not work. When I use a 10GBase-LR SFP+ module it starts to work.
I think based off the GTS User Guide, Only 10Gbase-LR is currently supported!- paveetirrasrie_Altera5 days ago

Hello Joshua,
I've rechecked with internal team here. And yes you're right. Based on UG, it supports based on what mentioned in User Guide.
I had misconception that if it comply with electrical spec and line rate, it should work regardless. My theory was not right, silly me.
Apologies for the confusion and I hope you've gotten your answer.
