12 years agoUpgrading Arm Linux Kernel from 3.7 to 3.13
Hello Friends,
I have Altera SoCKit - The Development Kit http://www.terasic.com.tw/cgi-bin/page/archive.pl?categoryno=167&no=816 it shows that it has Linux Kernel 3.7.0 (by typing the command on PuTTy# uname -r) how do i upgrade this arm linux kernel from 3.7 to 3.13....? through some other channel i come to know that by downloading and copying the below link file to MicroSD card will upgrade the Linux Kernel from 3.7 to 3.13 http://releases.rocketboards.org/release/2014.06/gsrd_beta3/bin , but as the size of these two files is the order of 232 Mb . where as if i see the MicroSD card (in which current Arm Linux 3.7 is running) , it shows only two files having name and size is 1. uImage (Size 2.7 Mb) 2. socfpga (8 Kb) so please suggest me how do upgrade Linux Kernel 3.7 to 3.13 or above Regards kaushal2 Replies

My guess from using the Rocket Boards distributions on Altera dev kits is that uImage is just the kernel, hence the smaller size. The SD card image will also contain the file system, hence the much larger size.

below is the solution
go to "Building Linux kernel" and follow the instruction. then use PuTTy or MiniCom for accessing the Command Prompt. http://www.alterawiki.com/wiki/compiling_u-boot_and_linux_kernel_for_cyclone_v_soc#building_linux_kernel
