thermometer with MAX V device

Hello, I'm making a thermometer controlled by a MAX V (5M160ZE64C5) device for a student project, here in Belgium. As this is my first contact with electronics I have a lot of question...

The parallel divide operation is consumin too much resources. A design with a bit serial divider might fit the MAX V device.
