The dreaded level converters

With IO voltages even lower than the attached controller one has to interface the FPGA with a level converter. Our local altera distributors support suggested the FST3245, an 8 bit parallel analog switch. The last time I looked, it had an MOQ of 2500 pieces at 0.169 USD, being just 420 USD, at digikey. I fear it just takes me too long to use them all, also considering that there are new FPGA families coming out every year. Is there an alternate solution to interface to a 3.3V controller ? Or is there a small guarantee that these analog switches will serve the purpose for some time to come ?
