Schmitt Trigger I/O

If I need Schmitt Trigger Inputs and the incoming Logic is at 5V should I use at first a Pin with the PCI I/O Option (and a Resistor) and then go out and go in again with an I/O pin and Schmitt Trigger option ? (MAXII)

Is there any better idea ? Or is the best way to use a 74lvc125 by ex. to change the levels ?
