Requesting you to resolve the programming and GUI issues on Cyclone V SX SoC Development Kit

Board name: Cyclone V SX SoC Development Kit

FPGA Device: 5CSXFC6D6F31 (Cyclone V SX SoC)

JTAG interface: On-board USB-Blaster II (J23)

Software: Intel Quartus Prime lite 20.1

OS: windows

1.When we are attempting to program the FPGA using Quartus programmer, the operation fails with, Status: Progress Failed.

Although the USB-Blaster II cable is detected, the FPGA does not program successfully.

2.when we click on the auto detect, it is showing "The auto detected device chain does not match the programming Device list.

Do you want to update the programmer's device list, overwriting any existing settings".

3.we are trying to test the Board system (Built-in-test). As per the Datasheet we are referring, GUI need to open in the folder.

But it is showing BoardTestSystem.bat not found, GUI does not open, examples folder missing or incomplete.

can you please resolve above the issues we are facing now.

    Hi Balchan,

Thanks for the details. Here is a clear action you may try to resolve the issues.

    1. Programming fails in Quartus (“Progress Failed”)
    • Install the Intel FPGA Download Cable II driver: Device Manager → Update driver → browse to C:\intelFPGA_lite\20.1\quartus\drivers. If Windows blocks it, install the latest “Quartus Prime Programmer and Tools” to get the updated driver.
    • In Quartus Programmer: Hardware Setup → select “Intel FPGA Download Cable II” → Auto Detect → click Yes to update the chain → assign your .sof to device 5CSXFC6D6F31 → Program.
    • Set board switches for JTAG not bypassed: HPS_JTAG_EN=OFF, FPGA_JTAG_EN=OFF, HSMA_JTAG_EN=ON, MAX_JTAG_EN=OFF.
    • If it still fails, lower the JTAG clock (jtagconfig --setparam 1 JtagClock 6M), then retry. Power the board first, then connect the cable and program.
    1. “Auto detected device chain does not match the Programmer’s device list”
    • This prompt is expected when the scan differs from your current list. Click Yes to overwrite, then make sure the .sof is assigned to 5CSXFC6D6F31 only.
    1. Board Test System GUI missing (“BoardTestSystem.bat not found”)
    • Install the Cyclone V SX SoC Development Kit package. It installs the Board Test System GUI and examples. Then follow “Preparing the Board” and “Running the Board Test System” steps in the user guide.

Please share your Windows version, board revision (Power Solution 1 or 2), and a screenshot of the Programmer window if any issue remains. I’ll adjust the exact switch map and paths for your unit.
