obsolescence EP1C3T144I7 ?

I'm designing a new board and my customer want to use an EP1C3T144I7 (because this kind of component is already use in other applications).

Can you confirm the availability of the EP1C3T144I7 ?

How long Altera can assume the availability of the EP1C3T144I7 ?

Thanks so much.

The EP1C3T144I7 is still available.. Just verified on www.arrownac.com. That they have at least some in stock. (Leaded version) But I would be iffy on new designs for this family, especially since you can get an EP4CE6 for the same price.. and have 2x the LE's.

I don't know how long Altera keeps their family's active, but as they are probably getting close to end of life, especially since the lead time is saying 20 weeks for this family and 12 weeks for the newer families..

The stock of popular Cyclone I devices is still large at catalog distributors, and the prices are still in a range comparable to newer devices. So the motivation for a redesign of existing products will be low. I recently asked a distributors product expert about expectable EP1C lifetime. He had no detail information, but expects a list price correction in two or three years as a first step of product cutback. If you start a product with EP1C, you have to track prices and particularly last buy announcements during it's active lifetime.

Personally, I would schedule no new design below Cyclone III or IV. Only an updated copy of an existing design may be reasonable candidate for re-using the old device,
