Mini LVDS operating distance

Hi,

We are having DK-SOC-1SSX-H-D development kit with us. Which supports Mini-LVDS interface. Can someone let us know, using this technology what is the maximum distance can be supported between driver and receiver.

Thanks,

Sanjeev

    Hello Sanjeev,

We don’t have the distance PCB trace spec.

The PCB lose would be different depends on the PCB material, PCB route parameters, etc.

The only method to evaluate the PCB distance, would be simulation.

    regards,

    Aqid

      Hi Aqid,

Thanks for the info. However is there a limitation by protocol itself such as for LVDS, distance can range from few inches to 10Meter?

      Regards,

      Sanjeev

      Hi,
there's no specific limitation "by protocol". You'll however experience data rate depending signal attenuation and waveform distortion. Presuming impedance matched and correctly terminated differential cable, you can achieve 10 m distance for 100 to 200 MBPS. The other possible limitation is common mode noise and voltage offset in case of inter-instrument communication. Consider that standard network interfaces like Ethernet use transformer coupling to get rid of common noise.
