I built linux from altera's github and loaded the file vmlinux (it didn't work to load the /arch/nios2/boot/vmImage).

Ok, it was the kernel command line I had to select "Passed kernel command line from u-boot"
https://alteraforum.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=13477&stc=1 Now I get kernel panic because of filesystem instead.
