HCIV GX EPE, v9.0 SP1 build13 bug?

Please refer to the attached JPG file. When estimating the HCIV GX EPE, I see two numbers being reported for the transceivers. Is the XCVR power being double counted. I also notice that the static power and the total power to be on the higher side. Are these known bugs in EPE, v9.0 SP1 b13?

There are three known issues with the EPE V9.0SP1 B13 that cause incorrect power estimation for the HardCopy IV GX ASICs: 1) duplicated XCVR power counting, 2) incorrect total static power estimation, and 3) incorrect total power estimation.

All 3 issues will be fixed in the EPE 9.0SP2 released with Quartus II software version 9.0 SP2.

    Issue# 1 - Duplicated XCVR power counting

With the EPE V9.0SP1 B13, two different XCVR power numbers are shown and included for the HardCopy power estimation. The second XCVR power reported is the correct one for the HardCopy IV GX device; and it should match the Stratix GX XCVR power estimation. The first XCVR power listed in the JPEG you attached is incorrect. Please ignore the first XCVR power value. The correct XCVR power value for your design is 3.072W.

Issue# 2 - Incorrect total static power estimation

From the HardCopy Estimation report, the HardCopy IV GX static power reported by the EPE V9.0SP1 B13 is incorrect because it includes second XCVR power and PCS/HIP power consumptions. In order to get the correct total static power estimation of HardCopy IV GX ASICs, you should subtract the second XCVR power and the PCS/HIP power from the reported total static power.

Static Power Calculations for your design:

    4.740W Static Power is incorrect.

Real Static Power = Incorrect Static – Correct XCVR – PCS/HIP

    Real Static Power = 4.74W – 3.072W – 1.302W

    Real Static Power = 0.366W

    Issue# 3 - Incorrect total power estimation

The Total Power reported in the HardCopy Estimation report is incorrectly too high because it includes one extra XCVR Power. As indicated in issue# 1 the first XCVR Power is incorrect and should be omitted. Subtract the first XCVR Power from the incorrect total power to get the real total power.

Total Power Calculations for your design:

    7.128W Total Power is incorrect

Real Total Power = Incorrect Total – First XCVR Power

    Real Total Power = 7.128W – 2.345W = 4.783W
