I have heard LABVIEW might be a good idea if you already have some idea about it.

Labview is good but I think it must target its own hardware... i mean NI hardware... I want a software that is more general on targeting FPGA... If you want to use LABVIEW, you must buy NI FPGA hardware... Can LABVIEW be targeting Altera Development Boards like DE2-70? - Altera_Forum

I am sure labview support external boards with VHDL codes.

You can use QT and NIOS2 compiler to generate the OBJ code...
If you use embedded linux in your NIOS2 you can use pretty much any graphical GUI existent in the market for embedded linux. - Altera_Forum

I think LABVIEW only support Xillinx FPGA not Altera....
correct me if I am wrong....
