Driving/Recieving PECL signals from a Fibre optic module

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post to the forum although I am a long time Altera user.

I have a problem, we use Fibre Optic modules (Avago HFBR 5208) for a data link in a product. The data is encoded in the common 10b8b and serialised at 600 Mbits/sec. The interface to the fibre module is PECL. Currently I use a Cypress hotlink chip to do the SERDES function and a Cyclone FPGA to process the byte rate data. However the hotlink is on a last time buy so I have to find a replacement. But I have to be able to support old hardware to.

The new Cyclone IV GX seems to be obvious solution because of the built in SERDES channels.

Question

What is the best way to convert to PECL ?

I know it is lame to have to answer my own question but here goes anyway.

Thanks to some help from Avago it seems some of the newer SFP transcievers such as the AFBR-5701xZ can be driven directly by CML. Anyway I will try and if it works all well and good.
