Also, when will the Cyclone IV in this package be available? Are these devices available for sampling? I need 2-3 for prototypes. Thanks.

maybe they get better prizes due to a project and they will handle that out with altera. also they can tell you if samples are available.Honored ContributorI did just get off the phone with Altera and Arrow. Altera simply referred me to Arrow and Arrow simply quoted information from their web site. It seems the Cyclone IV is vaporware and it looks like i have to choose another part for my project. I'm leaning towards an Arria GX instead since it is mature, has development kits as well as plenty of parts on the market. I'll start a separate thread regarding this...

I just ordered the Arria GX Development Kit and will use it for my prototype work. This will likely take many months. Once it is time to spin my board the Cyclone IV may be available.

When Cyclone II was released, we still used Cyclone I as the Cyclone II was still not available for a while only some parts could be delivered. When Cyclone III was released, we still had to stay with Cyclone II as the Cyclone III was still not available. Now Cyclone IV is released and Cyclone III is available ... The story is always the same with new products, it takes some time until they get available and it is good to ask an FAE what parts will be available first or what the main stream will beHonored Contributorthe Altera press release says 2010Q1 for CIVGX and the dev kits are said to be shipping in a couple months so it still seems a little early to see stocked parts yet.
Honored ContributorI mainly want to use the Arria GX Dev Kit to experiment with the transceivers in PIPE mode. I believe the megafunction for this has the same interface when instantiated in a Cyclone IV so the Arria GX should be fine for prototyping.

Honored ContributorWell, my development work will likely take a year or so so the Cyclone IV should be available once i need to create my PCB. I today received my Arria GX Development Kit so i will be able to start experimenting with the Transceivers.
