Automotive Graphics System Reference Design questions.

Hello,

After reading the Automotive Graphics System Reference Design PDF (http://www.altera.com/literature/an/an371.pdf) it seems like this may be the way to go for future product development. I have been using 4DSystems VGA graphics adapter but have reached the limits of it graphical capability for in dash telemetry graphics. Its been a rough time deciding on an RTOS route or going for an FPGA. I'd prefer to stay away from a Linux solution if possible. Now back to the Automotive Graphics System Reference Design. I assume that this is a downloadable project somewhere for use in Quartus II V14 with NIOS II? Is there a reference schematic to be used with this software instead of using the referenced development kit? I have no FPGA experience presently but have other embedded (hardware/software) experience. Will this demo be easy enough to get running?

The end result that i'm looking for is a multi layer graphics controller with alpha blending and anti-aliasing capability for real nice graphics. Is FPGA the way to go or is there an easier hardware setup with OpenVG capability or something? A background image with overlaid sprites and fonts would do the trick.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Regards.
