Are SRAM in cyclone II starter kite used for FPGA configuration only?

Hello,

We purchased the Development Kit “Cyclone III F780 Development Kit” and Altera Cyclone® II Starter EP2C20 development borad (EP2C20F484C7N).

There are SRAM chips in both kits. Are these SRAM chips used for the FPGA configuration?

What are these SRAM chips for in the previous 2 kits used?

    SRAM is never used for FPGA configuration, it's used e.g. as data or program memory of NIOS II processor, or other user defined purposes.
