Anybody using the temperature diode on Stratix II's?

On my circuit board I brought out the two pins from the temperature diode so that I could measure the temperature with an external device. I have not been able to get decent readings yet--either that, or my FPGA is 90C without even running anything.

Anyway, I found this page (http://www.altera.com/support/kdb/solutions/rd04202005_721.html) that states that the temperature diode is very susceptible to noise. It also suggests using maxim's max1617a (http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm/qv_pk/1964).

Has anybody been able to get reliable readings using the temperature diode?

    Yes, I have gotten good readings from the temp sense diode. You will see the MAXIM 1619 on some of the Altera evaluation or dev kits along with 7 segment displays. We have not seen problems -- you can use a thermocouple or temp sensing thermal gun to correlate.

    Yes, I have a couple different designs with StratixII reading out good temperatures. I use a ADM1021AARQZ. These are products that are currently shipping, not Altera dev boards. I've found that the temperature reads out fine well beyond the operating range of the part :eek: (I didn't ship that particular board).
