After programing MAX V on Stratix V, fan stop working and no hardware found

Dear All,

I am encountering a problem with Stratix V board. I reprogram the MAX V system controller CPLD with some simple design of my own. The fan and LCD stops working after programming.

I am trying to restore MAX V by using Quartus II programmer but the programmer can't detect devices anymore. I also tried JTAG chain debugger. It gave me error that "No hardware is connected". Jtagconfig -d also doesn't list any hardware.

What I should do to restore MAX V logic ?

Thanks !

Reprogramming the MAX system controller isn't usually a good idea.

However, if you identify the development board you're using we should be able to point you at the original binary (.pof), that came with the board, for you to reprogram your MAX device with.

The board I am using is Stratix V GS 5SGSMD5K2F40C2N FPGA.

I have found the max5.pof file in Altera folder but the JTAG chain can't detect any hardware in the chain so I can't restore it. The JTAG chain can't find FPGA either although it should be in JTAG chain always.

I run jtagconfig -d and give message as below:

    USB-BlasterII [USB-1]

Unable to read device chain (Hardware not attached)

Captured DR after reset = ()

Captured IR after reset = ()

    Captured Bypass chain = ()

If this kit is the same kind than the ones I have, the Max V handles a part of the USB blaster functionality. So by reflashing it you probably made the on-board USB blaster unusable. Do you have an external USB blaster? Then there should be a JTAG port on the development kit that you can use to reflash the Max V. There should also be some switches to configure to connect the JTAG port to the Max V.
