About the .edf file

This is an old post, but I'm stuck in a similar situation. I cannot seem to find any guidance on how to proceed, please guide me.

I just got an .edf file and a .v file my partners.

But it seems that the .edf file contains an IP core which the partners do not want me to get the details and the .v file just contains some IO information.

Then he says that i can use the IP core as long as i instantiation the .v file .

I never heard about it and do not know how to use it .

May any one of you give some advise or some directions ？
