We are interested in Intel FPGA based motion control solutions. We have a 5 axes motion control system which we intend to control through Intel motion control solution. The communication used is EtherCAT. Kindly suggest how to get started on this.

You could start by ​connecting a simple digital i/o remote station to a Terrasic DE demo board using IP from Beckhoff or open Source IP. https://www.beckhoff.com/english.asp?ethercat/ec_ipcore_overview.htm

What also can be of interest is to use a Beckhoff PLC & a Beckhoff i/o module, connect the 2, spy the bus telegrams with a data scope and then use this information to build an EtherCat master yourselve. Once i/o works you can move further to a VFD.
