On what CycloneIV Dev.Kit "PCI Express High Performance Reference Design" can be run?

Can "PCI Express High Performance Reference Design" be run on "Cyclone IV GX FPGA Development Kit" or only on "Cyclone IV GX Transceiver Starter Kit"?

Deliverable from Altera "Download a PCI Express High-Performance Reference Design" page include hip_c4gx_gen1_x4.qar, that could mean that "PCI Express High Performance Reference Design" could be run on "Cyclone IV GX FPGA Development Kit", because gen1_x4 is on "Cyclone IV GX FPGA Development Kit", not on "Cyclone IV GX Transceiver Starter Kit".

But "Cyclone IV GX FPGA Development Kit" is not mentioned in " PCI Express High-Performance Reference Design" data sheet, only "Cyclone IV GX Transceiver Starter Kit" is mentioned.:(

Hi Aphraton, the "development kit" has a x4 device so it should be able to run the reference design. I think the reference design was written for the x4 "development kit" since I remember when I tried it on my "starter kit", I had to make some small changes(pin out, etc) to make it work.

Why then "Cyclone IV GX FPGA Development Kit" is not mentioned in " PCI Express High-Performance Reference Design" data sheet, only "Cyclone IV GX Transceiver Starter Kit" is mentioned?

You meant AN456? It looks like it didn't mention the Cyclone IV GX development kit. It mentioned "FPGA programming files for the Cyclone IV GX Transceiver Starter Kit for ×1 and ×4 Gen1 operation" but I am not aware there is a x4 device for the starter kit. Maybe someone from Altera could clear up the issue.

    Yes, AN456.

    Here's the quote from AN456 ( page 12 ):

    Hardware Requirements

The reference design requires the following hardware:

    ■ The Arria II GX FPGA Development Kit, the cyclone iv gx transceiver starter kit, or the Stratix IV GX FPGA Development Kit.

I am about to buy Cyclone IV GX development kit and I want to be sure, that I would be able to run "PCI Express High-Performance Reference Design" on that kit.

    An answer to myself.

"PCI Express High-Performance Reference Design" can be run on Cyclone IV GX FPGA Development Kit.

    I tested it in reality.
