External Clock for DE2 board

Hello everyone, I have a simple question. Can we use a function generator as the source for the external clock of the de2 board??? I really want to use a clock frequency other than the ones provided ...

Sure, but you can also use a PLL on the board to change the 50MHz or 27MHz to whatever frequency you like (within reason).

Why not do that? It saves a function generator.
