Do I always need a jtag programmer or can I in-circuit program my device emulating some kind of protocol/signals?

Hi,I am a bit new to FPGA's. I am interesting in the Max 10 fpga. Any idea with programmer is suitable for the Max 10 -10M08 Eval Kit Board?PL-USB2-BLASTER or the more expansive one PL-USB-BLASTER-RCN?Do I always need an external programmer to program my device?Thanks in advance.Peter

Once you've created and tested your design, you can store the bitstream in the configuration flash memory (CFM) of the device so it will program itself on powerup.#iwork4intel

Yes, you need a programming cable.https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/programmable/products/boards_and_kits/download-cables.htmlThere are 3rd party options available. Terasic's option is popular.
