Where can I go to find out what the Intel High Level Design tools actually do?

I have a BS in Computer Science from the University of Washington, and also an MS from the same university. My interest has turned more to electrical engineering, and I have come up with a concept for a hardware sorting machine that I'd like to investigate long enough to determine if it would be useful in the industry. I bought a book on VHDL, and I think it gave me enough information to code my sorting tool. Can the Intel High Level Design tools help me with such a VHDL specification?
